Daring to Hope by Katie Davis Majors

Have you heard about the girl who went to Uganda and adopted a bunch of girls? Katie's first book, Kisses from Katie, a New York Times Best Seller, chronicled her first experiences in Uganda. Now, Katie continues her story in her second book, Daring to Hope, which is just as great as her first book!

I absolutely loved this book! Katie's story is inspiring and convicting. She definitely shares her stories from her heart and reveals all of those vulnerable thoughts many people often try to hide. My book is underlined in many places because what she said touched my heart. Let me share just two of the many I underlined.

"God sees you and me in our pain and our brokenness. He sees you walking a difficult path when the sun goes down and your life is a far cry from that which you expected or dreamed up. He sees you when the ending of the story is not the one that you yearned for and your prayers seem unanswered and it all feels like a bit of a mess. He wants to name these places The Lord Will Provide. When we thought life might be easier, when we thought things might be different, when we thought we might be better, be more, God provides His Son, who meets us and provides grace for our gaps and light in our darkness." (pg. 27)

"Our pain does not minimize His goodness to us, but in fact allows us to experience it in a whole new way." (pg. 138)

Katie's story this time around wrestles through death, grief, and joy, and finds that God is in the midst of it all teaching her how to more deeply depend on Him. If you are looking for a story that will encourage your walk with God, pick up Katie's newest book, Daring to Hope. It's definitely a book that should be in everyone's library!

The Mayflower Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse

There is this delightful new series, The Daughters of the Mayflower, that is the combined efforts of several authors collaborating together. The first book to start the series is The Mayflower Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse. This book will take you on a journey through historical events as the Mayflower made history crossing the ocean in 1620.

From the Back Cover:
Mary Elizabeth Chapman boards the Speedwell in 1620 alongside her father and brother as Separatists seeking a better life in the New World.
William Lytton embarks on the Mayflower as a carpenter looking for opportunities to succeed--and he may have found on when a man from Virginia Company offers William a hefty sum to keep a stealth eye on company interests in the new colony.
The season is far too late for good sailing and storms rage, but reaching land may be no better as food is scarce and the people are weak.
Will Mary Elizabeth survive to face the spring planting and unknown natives? Will William be branded a traitor and expelled?

My Thoughts:
Kimberley Woodhouse did an amazing job with research for this book. I absolutely loved reading it.  The history alone is amazing and made this historic journey of the Mayflower come alive for me. We grow up learning about the Mayflower and the Pilgrims, but I certainly didn't realize many of the details that Kimberley brings to light. For some reason, I didn't even remember that they had a land contract with the Virginia Company for a different part of the country and only ended up on Cape Cod, Mass. because they were blown off course by all the bad weather. I loved being able to see the place in Provincetown this past summer to see the exact place where the Pilgrims landed. My family then got to stop in Plymouth, Massachusetts to see the 1620 rock and walk around the town. If you want to learn more about what it would of been like for these adventurous and courageous people to cross the ocean, make sure to pick up The Mayflower Bride to add to your library!
