Lord, I Give You This Day by Kay Arthur

Kay Arthur's book Lord, I Give You This Day is a 366 daily devotional book.  Each page contains the author's thoughts along with some Scripture and then ends with a prayer.  The material from the book is from Kay Arthur's other books: Lord, Give Me a Heart for You; Lord, I Need Grace to Make It Today; Lord, I Want to Know You; Lord, Only You can Change Me; Lord, Heal My Hurts; Lord, Is It Warfare? Teach Me to Stand; Lord, I'm Torn Between Two Masters; Lord, Where are You When Bad Things Happen?

I thought the devotional thoughts were well written and thought provoking.  Kay Arthur does a great job applying Scripture and making you think.  It is a devotional book, so the thoughts are different each day and only take up one page.  This would be a great book to get for just a quick read in the morning before getting your day started and the chaos begins...especially if you are a mom like me.   This book would also work well for a gift by itself of in a gift basket.

Below is a video of Kay Arthur talking about her 40 minute Bible study series.

Love in Disguise by Carol Cox

Love in Disguise is about a young women named Ellie Moore.  She had worked for a theater company in Chicago as a personal wardrobe mistress to a renowned actress.  When the actress ends her career in America and sails for London, Ellie is unexpectedly out of a job.  Her career takes a turn when she over hears two men talking about a need for a private investigator.  Soon she is headed out west to see what she can find out about a situation she is supposed to investigate incognito.

I loved this book!  It was such a fun read.  Carol Cox did an amazing job on this book!  It was fun to read about how Ellie got herself out of her horrible situation of being alone with no job and into a very sticky situation of being a P.I.  Her theater experience certainly comes in handy for her new job.  At first you wonder if she'll be able to pull it off, but then you see that she really is quite a clever girl.  Make sure to pick up this delightful read.  You won't be disappointed!

You can see Carol Cox's website here and look for her next novel coming out June 2013 called Trouble in Store.

Firefly Island by Lisa Wingate

About the Book:

Sometimes love takes you on an adventure completely off the map.

Mallory Hale's life quickly veers off course when she falls hopelessly in love. After a whirlwind romance, Mallory finds herself leaving the bustle and action of Capitol Hill for the remote town of Moses Lake, Texas-with husband, stepson, and a U-Haul in tow.

A sweet, mishap-filled journey into marriage, motherhood, and ranch living ensues, and Mallory is filled with both the wonderment of love and the insecurities of change. But what she can't shake is the unease she feels around her husband's new boss, Jack West. Jack's presence-and his mysterious past-set her on edge, and when hints of a scandal emerge, Mallory finds herself seeking answers . . . and comes to realize that the middle-of-nowhere home she wasn't sure she wanted is the very place she'll risk everything to save.

My Review:
This is Lisa Wingate's newest book in the Moses Lake Series called Firefly Island.  Like her other two books Larkspur Cove (book 1) and Blue Moon Bay (Book 2), Lisa writes a story that involves love, the people of Moses Lake and mystery.  This time the story involves a young women named, Mallory Hale and a chance encounter in the Capitol building with a man by the name of Daniel Webster Everson.  Of course, Mallory was scrabbling all over for the papers to a Clean Energy Bill that had flown out of her hands creating quite a snow storm all around her.  Daniel helped her out, but that was the end of their meeting.  It wasn't until Mal and Daniel actually ended up meeting a second time in congressman James Faber's office, that they actually talked more.  They exchanged information and things progressed from there...uh...rather quickly.  After one month of dating Daniel was asking Mal to marry him since his job was taking him to the far off state of Texas to Moses Lake. Mallory was faced with a lot of big decisions.   All at once, Mallory would become a wife to Daniel and a mother to his 3 year old son, Nick.  Plus moving across several states away from her family.  Mallory accepted, planned a whirlwind wedding and packed to move across the country with her new family.
The mystery begins to build as they find out about their new employer's past history.  Apparently, his wife and step-son mysteriously vanished.  Their employer, Jack West, was cleared of any wrong doing, but Mallory has an uneasy feeling living at Jack West's Ranch.  Believing she was sent there for a purpose, Mallory searches for answers to the many questions she has while trying to protect Nick and Daniel.

This book was another fun read by Lisa Wingate.  The beginning was a little unbelieveable....getting married after only dating for one month.  Of course, I only dated my husband for around 6 months before getting engaged, but the wedding wasn't for another 6 months after that.  She is in her 30's and when you're older, you do know what you want and when it's right.  I love that Lisa included a blog for Mallory, it's so modern.  Mallory's background fit well into the final chapters of the book and she weaved all of the facts together so well.  It was really hard to put down the book at the end.  I love how she tells the story of so many in Moses Lake.  You may read about characters from the other books she has written, but she explores so many new people in each book.
If you're looking for a fun set of books to read, pick up the Moses Lake series.  It's enjoyable!
